1. Univers
Meaning : L’Univers est l’ensemble de tout ce qui existe : l’espace, le temps et la matière.
English : universe : everything that exists, especially all physical matter, including all the stars, planets, galaxies, etc. in space.
Example : Il y a d’innombrables étoiles dans l’univers. (There are countless stars in the universe.)
2. Galaxie
Meaning : Vaste ensemble d’étoiles et de matière interstellaire dont la cohésion est assurée par la gravitation
English : galaxy : the very large group of stars that contains the solar system (= the sun and all the planets, including Earth, that go around it)
Example : La Galaxie apparaît clairement comme un ensemble d’étoiles. (The galaxy, in fact, appeared clearly like a tannery of countless stars.)
3. Planète
Meaning : Corps céleste de forme à peu près sphérique qui tourne autour du Soleil (ou d’une étoile)
English : planet : an extremely large, round mass of rock and metal, such as Earth, or of gas, such as Jupiter, that moves in a circular path around the sun or another star.
Example : Les planètes obéissent aux lois de la gravité. (Planets obey the laws of gravity.)
4. Soleil
Meaning : Astre qui donne lumière et chaleur à la Terre, et rythme la vie à sa surface
English : sun : the star that provides light and heat for the earth and around which the earth moves.
Example : La lune a éclipsé le soleil. (The moon eclipsed the sun.)
5. Lune
Meaning : c’est un objet céleste qui orbite autour de la planète Terre et le seul satellite
English : moon : the round object that moves in the sky around the earth and can be seen at night.
Example : La lune a éclipsé le soleil. (The moon eclipsed the sun.)
6. Mercure
Meaning : Mercure est la planète la plus proche du Soleil et la moins massive du Système solaire
English : mercury : the planet closest in distance to the Sun
Example : La température sur Mercure peut atteindre 426 degrés Celsius. (The temperature on Mercury can reach up to 426 degrees Celsius.)
7. Vénus
Meaning : Deuxième planète à partir du Soleil
English : Venus : the planet second in order of distance from the Sun, after Mercury and before Earth. It is the closest planet to Earth

8. La Terre

9. Mars

10. Jupiter
Meaning : c’est la cinquième planète de notre système solaire

11. Saturne
Meaning : Saturne est la sixième planète du Système solaire par éloignement au Soleil et la deuxième plus grande par la taille et la masse après Jupiter,

15. Satellite
Meaning : Corps céleste gravitant autour d’une planète.

16. La voie lactée
Meaning : La Voie lactée est le nom de notre galaxie. Foyer du Système solaire, elle est de type spiral.

17. Nébuleuse
Meaning : Objet céleste présentant un aspect diffus et nuageux
English : nebula : a cloud of gas or dust in space, appearing either bright or dark
Example : La nébuleuse est en fait une forme de vie. (That nebula is actually a life-form.)
18. Comète
Meaning : Astre d’aspect nébuleux souvent accompagné d’une traînée lumineuse et dont l’orbite autour du soleil a généralement la forme d’une ellipse très allongée.
English : comet : an object that moves around the sun, usually at a great distance from it, that is seen on rare occasions from the earth as a bright line in the sky

Meaning : Petit corps rocheux ou métallique, de forme généralement irrégulière, qui gravite autour du Soleil.

Example : Astéroïde: L’un des nombreux petits corps célestes rocheux en orbite autour du soleil. (Asteroid: One of the numerous small rocky bodies in orbit around the Sun.)
20. Météorite
Meaning : Fragment de corps céleste qui traverse l’atmosphère et atteint la croûte terrestre.
English : meteorite : a piece of rock or other matter from space that has landed on earth
Example : Une météorite qui brûle devient une étoile filante. (A burning meteoroid produces a meteor.)
21. Orbite
Meaning : Trajectoire courbe (d’un corps céleste) ayant pour foyer un autre corps céleste.
English : orbit : the curved path through which objects in space move around a planet or star
Example : Orbite qui passe juste au-dessus des deux pôles géographiques du globe. (Orbit which passes directly over both geographic poles of the Earth.)
