Lucas : How was the process like after joining?

Grandpa: I was then given a joining date.

Lucas: What is that? I’m afraid I don’t understand that.

Grandpa: As the name suggests, joining date is the date when you are supposed to join the office. Basically, the date you start working on.
Grand-père: Comme son nom l’indique, la date d’intégration est la date à laquelle tu es censé rejoindre le bureau. En fait, c’est la date à laquelle tu commences à travailler.
Lucas: I thought so. Now, let me guess, after that you might have submitted your documents.

Grandpa: That is definitely true. Colleagues are people you work around in an office. They work along with you.

Lucas: Oh okay, it makes sense to me now.
Lucas: Oh d’accord, ça a du sens pour moi maintenant.
Grandpa: Do you know that there are a few rules and regulations you need to follow in a corporate space? You need to abide by company policies, or the management can fire you.
Grand-père: Sais-tu qu’il y a quelques règles et réglementations que tu dois suivre au travail? Tu dois respecter les politiques de l’entreprise, sinon la direction peut te licencier (to fire) (“Fire” signifie feu aussi).
Lucas: Wait, what? Fire me? As in?
Lucas: Attends, quoi? Me mettre au feu?
Grandpa: Not the real fire dear, to fire someone means to remove them from the office. I suggest you work obediently, or you can be fired too.
Grand-père: Non pas le vrai feu mon cher, licencier (to fire someone) signifie retirer du bureau. Je te suggère de travailler avec obéissance, ou tu peux également être renvoyé.
Lucas: Haha, don’t worry! That will not happen.

Grandpa: However, other than that, there are a few perks that all offices have to offer.

Lucas: That sounds great.You had two jobs. Right, grandpa?

Grandpa: Yes, I resigned from the first one.

Lucas: What does resign mean?

Grandpa: Yes, it’s the time an employee gives an employer before quitting. The employer can in that moment, find another replacement for the same.
Grand-père: Oui, c’est le temps qu’un employé donne à un employeur avant de quitter le travail. L’employeur peut à ce moment, trouver un autre remplaçant pour le même poste.
Lucas: That was about the first job. Tell me more about your second job.
Lucas: C’était à propos du premier emploi. Parle-moi de ton deuxième emploi.
Grandpa: I can say it was the best decision of my life.
Grand-père: Je peux dire que c’était la meilleure décision de ma vie.
Lucas: Why is that so?
Lucas: Pourquoi?
Grandpa: I got an opportunity to work on various projects there. If you don’t know, a project is a series of tasks that need to be completed in order to reach a specific outcome.

Grandpa: Yes, I took my retirement very recently. It was a sad process, but I guess I need some rest now.
