Vocabulaire lié aux endroits dans une ville

La plupart d’entre nous vivent dans des villes. Il existe différents types de bâtiments et d’établissements dans une ville. Apprenons à les appeler en anglais. Voici quelques exemples d’endroits dans une ville.

1.airport [ air-pawrt ]

Meaning – a place where aircraft regularly take off and land, with buildings for passengers to wait in

French – aéroport

Example: They went to the airport to see them off. (Ils sont allés à l’aéroport pour leur départ.) 

2.apartment [uhpahrt-muh nt]

Meaning –  a set of rooms for living in, especially on one floor of a building

French – appartement

Example: John rented an apartment with his friends. (John a loué un appartement avec ses amis.)

3.bakery [ bey-kuh-ree ]

Meaning- a place where bread and cakes are made and sometimes sold

French – boulangerie

Example: The smell while passing by a bakery is amazing. (L’odeur en passant par une boulangerie est incroyable.)

4.Bank [ bangk ]

Meaning -an organization where people and businesses can invest or borrow money, change it to foreign money, etc., or a building where these services are offered

French –  banque

Example: After winning a lottery, he rushed to the bank to withdraw the prize money. (Après avoir gagné à la loterie, il s’est précipité à la banque pour retirer l’argent du prix.)

5.bookstore [ boo k-stohr ]

Meaning – a store or website where books are sold

French – librairie

Example: She loves books so much, you can always find her in a bookstore. (Elle aime tellement les livres que vous pouvez toujours la trouver dans une librairie.)

6.café  – [ka-fey ]

Meaning – a restaurant where simple and usually quite cheap meals are served

French – café 

Example: The friends had a good time chilling at the café. (Les amis se sont bien amusés au café.)

7.Church – [church ]

Meaning – a building for Christian religious activities

French – église

Example: She goes to church every sunday.  (Elle va à l’église tous les dimanches.)

8.Cinema [ sinuh-muh ]

Meaning – a theatre where people pay to watch films

French – cinéma 

Example: There isn’t one single cinema in the neighborhood.  (Il n’y a pas un seul cinéma dans le quartier.)

9.Department Store – [dih-pahrt-muhnt stohr]

Meaning – a large shop divided into several different parts, each of which sells different things

French – grand magasin

Example: The department store ran out of art supplies. (Le grand magasin était à court de fournitures d’art.)

10.Hospital [hos-pi-tl]

Meaning – a place where people who are ill or injured are treated and taken care of by doctors and nurses

French – hôpital 

Example: Tom was rushed to the hospital after he dislocated his hand. (Tom a été transporté d’urgence à l’hôpital après s’être luxé la main.)

11.Museum [ myoo-zeeuh m]

Meaning – a building where objects of historical, scientific, or artistic interest are kept

French – musée

Example: She loves going to museums to know about things. (Elle aime aller dans les musées pour apprendre des choses.)

12.Post Office – [ pohst aw-fis ]

Meaning – a place where stamps are sold and from where letters and parcels are sent

French – bureau de poste

Example: She loves going to the post office to collect stamps. (Elle aime aller au bureau de poste pour récupérer des timbres.)

13.restaurant – [ res-ter-uh nt]

Meaning – a place where meals are prepared and served to customers

French – restaurant

Example: Every year on her birthday, they go to her favorite restaurant. (Chaque année pour son anniversaire, ils se rendent dans son restaurant préféré.)

14. school – [skool]

Meaning – a place where children go to be educated:

French – école 

Example: The children can’t wait for school to start. (Les enfants ne peuvent pas attendre que l’école commence.)

15.shopping mall [shop-ing mawl]

Meaning – a very large building or buildings containing a lot of stores and restaurants, usually with space outside for parking

French – centre commercial

Example: The shopping mall is always crowded on sundays. (Le centre commercial est toujours bondé le dimanche.)

16.Supermarket- [soo-per-mahr-kit ]

Meaning – a large shop which sells most types of food and other goods needed in the home

French – supermarché 

Example: They went to the supermarket to buy some essentials. (Ils sont allés au supermarché pour acheter des articles essentiels.)

17.Temple[ tem-puh l ]

Meaning – a building used for the worship of a god or gods in some religions

French – temple

Example: This temple took years to be built. (Ce temple a mis des années à être construit.)

18.Train Station – [treyn stey-shuhn]

Meaning – a place with one or more buildings and platforms where trains stop for people to get on or off

French – gare

Example: They reached the train station just in time, before the train left. (Ils arrivèrent à la gare juste à temps, avant le départ du train.)
