1. Pie [ pahy ]

Meaning: a type of food made with meat, vegetables, or fruit covered in pastry and baked

French: tarte

Can you make me an apple pie? (Pouvez-vous me faire une tarte aux pommes?)

2. Cake [ keyk ]

Meaning – a sweet food made with a mixture of flour, eggs, fat, and sugar

French – gâteau

She baked a chocolate cake for me. (Elle a préparé un gâteau au chocolat pour moi.)

3. Candy[ kan-dee ]

Meaning –  a sweet food made from sugar or chocolate, or a piece of this

French – bonbons

Kids wait for Halloween to get candy.  (Les enfants attendent Halloween pour avoir des bonbons.)

4. Cookie [ koo k-ee ]

Meaning: a small, flat, sweet food made from flour and sugar

French: –  cookie

Her choco-chip cookies are very famous. (Ses cookies aux pépites de chocolat sont très connus.)

5. Doughnut [ doh-nuh t ]

Meaning – a small, circular cake, fried in hot fat, either with a hole in the middle or filled with jam

French – beignets

I don’t like doughnuts that much. (Je n’aime pas trop les beignets.)

6. Ice-cream 

Meaning – a very cold, sweet food made from frozen milk or cream, sugar, and a flavour

French – glace

It’s too hot outside, would you like to get some ice cream? (Il fait trop chaud dehors, tu veux de la glace?)

7. Muffin[ muhf-in ]

Meaning – a small sweet cake that often has fruit inside it

French – muffin

He likes muffins better than creamy cakes. (Il aime mieux les muffins que les gâteaux crémeux.)

8. Pudding [ poo d-ing ]

Meaning – a sweet and usually hot dish made with pastry, flour, bread, or rice, and often fruit

French – pudding

Do you make pudding often? (Faites-vous souvent du pudding?)

9. Mousse [ moos ]

Meaning – a light cold food made from eggs mixed with cream

French – mousse

She loves chocolate mousse.  (Elle adore la mousse au chocolat.)

10. Waffle [ wof-uh l ]

Meaning – a type of bread or cake made from batter (= a thin mixture of milk, flour, and egg) cooked in a special pan whose surface forms a pattern of raised squares

French –   gaufre

A waffle can fill your stomach in no time. (Une gaufre peut remplir votre estomac dans un clin d’œil.)

11. Tart [ tahrt  ]

Meaning: an open pastry case with a filling, usually of something sweet such as fruit

French -Tarte

Can you get me an apple tart from the bakery? (Pouvez-vous me procurer une tarte aux pommes de la boulangerie?)

12. Cheesecake [ cheez-keyk  ]

Meaning – a cake made from a layer of biscuit, or a sweet pastry base, covered with soft cheese, eggs, sugar, and sometimes fruit

French: cheesecake

I just can’t have any cheesecake ever.  (Je ne peux jamais avoir de cheesecake.)

13. Pancake [ pan-keyk ]

Meaning – a thin, flat, round cake made from a mixture of flour, milk, and egg, fried on both sides

French: crêpe 

The chocolate pancakes melted in my mouth in no time. (Les crêpes au chocolat ont fondu dans ma bouche dans un clin d’œil.)
