How many of you are used to doing daily household chores? I’m sure some of you might love doing them, and some hate them. However, without them, it’s almost impossible to live a normal life. Let’s see what different chores are called in French.
1. cuisiner
English: cook
Example: Je ne cuisine jamais. (I never cook.)
2. faire la vaisselle
English: do the dishes
Example:Mon frère fait la vaisselle le weekend. (My brother does the dishes on weekends.)
3. faire le lit
English: make the bed
Example: Amy aime toujours faire le lit.(Amy always loves to make the bed.)
4. faire les courses
English: do the shopping
Example: Je faisais les courses avec mon papa une fois par mois. (I used to shop with my dad once a month.)
5. faire la lessive
English: do the laundry
Example: Personne ne veut faire la lessive dans ma famille. (No one wants to do laundry in my family.)
6. sortir la poubelle
English: take out garbage
Example: Il faut sortir la poubelle tous les jours. (You have to take out the trash every day.)
7. passer l’aspirateur
English: vacuum
Example: C’est amusant de passer l’aspirateur dans le salon. (It’s fun to vacuum the living room.)
8. Tondre le gazon
English: mow the lawn
Example:Ne jamais tondre le gazon durant une période de canicule.(Never mow the lawn during a heat wave.)
9. balayer
English: sweep
Example: Ma mère m’a fait balayer le sol.(My Mother made me sweep the floor.)
10. ranger
English: tidy up
Example:Ma mère ne me permettra pas de sortir si je ne range pas ma chambre. (My mother won’t allow me to go out if I don’t tidy up my room.)
11. Mettre les couverts
English: set the table
Example: Nous avons mis la table avant l’arrivée des invités. (We set the table before the guests arrived.)
12. S’occuper de
English: to look after
Example: Ils ont engagé une nounou pour s’occuper de leur bébé. (They hired a nanny to look after their baby.)
13. jardinage
English: gardening
Example:Pendant son temps libre, Tom fait du jardinage.(In his free time, Tom does gardening.)
15. arroser les plantes
English: water the plants
Example: Si nous n’arrosons pas les plantes, elles mourront. (If we don’t water thé plants, they will die.)
16. Laver la voiture
English: wash the car
Example: Laver une voiture blanche est difficile.(Washing a white car is difficult. )
17. Promener le chien
English: walk the dog
Example: Tina aime promener son chien dans le parc tous les jours.(Tina loves to walk her dog everyday in the park.)
18. Faire le repassage
English: to do ironing
Example: Quand sa maman est occupée, il fait le repassage. (When his mom is busy, he does the ironing.)
