1. Attorney

4. Judge
Meaning: a person who is in charge of a trial in a court and decides how a person who is guilty of a crime should be punished, or who makes decisions on legal matters

Meaning – a problem taken to a law court by an ordinary person or an organization rather than the police in order to obtain a legal decision

Meaning – someone whose job is to give advice to people about the law and speak for them in court

Meaning: a person who sees an event happening, especially a crime or an accident

Meaning- to take legal action against a person or organization, especially by making a legal claim for money because of some harm that they have caused you

Meaning – an urgent and emotional request
French: plaidoyer
The thief made a plea for mercy. (Le voleur a plaidé pour la miséricorde.)
14. Felony
Meaning – serious crime that can be punished by one or more years in prison:
French: la félonie
Example: No one believed she would commit such a felony. (Personne ne croyait qu’elle commettrait une félonie.)
15. Defendant
Meaning – a person in a law case who is accused of having done something illegal
French: défendeur
Example: The defendant was charged with disturbing the peace. (Le défendeur a été accusé d’avoir troublé la paix.)
