Vocabulaire lié aux jouets en anglais

Vous rencontrerez rarement quelqu’un qui n’a jamais joué avec ou même vu un jouet. Les jouets sont une partie spéciale et nostalgique de notre enfance. 1. Action figure

Meaning: a toy or doll representing a character known for vigorous activity

French : figurines d’action

Peter collects action figures of Iron Man and Captain America. (Peter collectionne les figurines d’action d’Iron Man et de Captain America.)

2. Dice

Meaning: a small cube which has between one and six spots or numbers on its sides.

French: dé

The children rolled the dice and played the game. (Les enfants ont lancé un dé et joué le jeu.)

3. Hula hoop

Meaning: a plastic, circular tube you rotate around your body by circling your hips

French: cerceau / hula hoop

Julia is very good at using a hula hoop. (Julia est très douée pour utiliser un hula hoop.)

4. Jigsaw puzzle

Meaning: a puzzle of many small pieces of a picture that must be fitted together.

French: puzzle

The whole family worked together to complete the jigsaw puzzle.(Toute la famille a travaillé ensemble pour compléter le puzzle.)

5. Skateboard

Meaning: a narrow board with wheels at each end, which people stand on and ride

French: skateboard

A group of boys and girls were riding their skateboards to school.(Un groupe de garçons et de filles se rendaient à l’école en skateboard.)

6. Cards

Meaning: A game played with cards

French: cartes

I won a lot of money playing cards with my friends. (J’ai gagné beaucoup d’argent en jouant aux cartes avec mes amis.)

7. Blocks

Meaning: cubical and solid wooden or plastic building toy

French: cubes

The tiny baby loves to hold the blocks in its hands. (Le petit bébé adore tenir les cubes dans ses mains.)

8. Dolls

Meaning: A child’s toy in the form of a baby or small person

French: poupées

My little sister plays with her dolls all day long. (Ma petite sœur joue avec ses poupées toute la journée.)

9. Marbles

Meaning: A little ball made of a hard substance and used in various games

French: billes

Tom invented a new game with his friends using marbles. (Tom a inventé un nouveau jeu avec ses amis en utilisant des billes.)

10. Trampoline

Meaning: device consisting of a piece of strong fabric stretched between a steel frame using many coiled springs

French: trampoline

There was a huge trampoline at the birthday party where the kids jumped around. (Il y avait un énorme trampoline à la fête d’anniversaire où les enfants ont sauté.)

11. Bicycle

Meaning: a light vehicle having two wheels one behind the other

French: bicyclette

I never learned how to ride a bicycle in my childhood. (Je n’ai jamais appris à faire du vélo dans mon enfance.)

12. Yo-yo

Meaning: a small round toy that has two flattened disks with a string attached to the centre

French: yo-yo

When I was young, my favourite thing to do was playing with a yo-yo. (Quand j’étais jeune, ce que je préférais faire, c’était jouer avec un yo-yo.)

13. Board games

Meaning: a game played by placing or moving pieces on a board

French: jeux de société

My friend always cries when she loses at a board game; she is such a sore loser. (Mon amie pleure toujours quand elle perd à un jeu de société ; elle est une si mauvaise perdante.)

14. Play dough

Meaning: a soft coloured substance similar to clay that children use for making models or shapes

French: pâte à modeler

I gave my niece a box of play dough as a gift and she became so happy. (J’ai offert à ma nièce une boîte de pâte à modeler et elle est devenue si heureuse.)

15. Roller skates

Meaning: a shoe with a set of wheels attached for skating over a flat surface

French: Patins

Laura bought a brand new pair of roller skates to enter into the competition. (Laura a acheté une toute nouvelle paire de patins à roulettes pour participer à la compétition.)

16. Teddy bear

Meaning: a stuffed toy bear

French: nounours

Even though Connor is a grown young man, he still sleeps with his teddy bear. (Même si Connor est un jeune homme adulte, il dort toujours avec son ours en peluche.)

17. Jump rope

Meaning: a rope that is used for jumping over as an exercise or game

French: corde à sauter

The coach made the little girls exercise using a jump rope at school. (L’entraîneur a obligé les petites filles à faire des exercices avec une corde à sauter à l’école.)

18. Swing

Meaning: a seat hanging by two ropes or chains from a metal frame

French: balançoire

The little kids lined up for their turn at the swing in the park. (Les petits enfants se sont alignés pour leur tour à la balançoire dans le parc.)

19. Slide

Meaning: a vertical smooth surface on which a person can move downwards easily while having fun

French: glissoires

Little Angela is scared of going up on the slides. (La petite Angela a peur de monter sur les glissoires.)

20. Puppets

Meaning: a doll moved by hand or by strings or wires

French: Marionnettes

Mason’s dad uses a puppet to teach him good manners. (Le père de Mason utilise une marionnette pour lui apprendre les bonnes manières.)

21. Video games

Meaning: an electronic game in which players control images on a video screen

French: jeu vidéo

Joshua’s parents let him play video games for one hour everyday. (Les parents de Joshua le laissaient jouer à des jeux vidéo pendant une heure tous les jours.)

22. Rubik’s cube

Meaning: a puzzle consisting of a box with different colored squares which you can swivel

French: Rubik’s cube

Although Sam is just four years old, he can solve the rubik’s cube in no time. (Bien que Sam n’ait que quatre ans, il peut résoudre le rubik’s cube en un temps record.)
